The Wagner ProCoat is a 2800 PSI electric piston pump paint sprayer capable of spraying today’s thick latex paints without thinning at .24 GPM (Gallons per minute) with a 1/2 HP motor. It produces the same great finish found with professional sprayers with features designed for the home-owner. Draw paint, stain, or sealers directly from the can. The adjustable pressure controls overspray while the spray gun swivel increases comfort. Great for whole house painting yet simple enough for sheds, fences, and decks. Paint your house, barn, shed, garage, deck, fence, cabin, lawn furniture, awning, lattice, and children’s playground equipment. It sets up in less than 5 minutes by simply snapping the inlet hose in place and attaching the pressure hose and gun to the outlet. A garden hose connects to the inlet for a quick flush cleaning the entire system in less than 10 minutes. Proven Piston Pump technology and contractor grade siphon tube creates a reliable pump for the homeowner spraying thick latex paints as well as thin stains and sealers in one sprayer. This thing gets the job done. Had the entire front of my house painted in just under a few hrs rt after getting this thing. Its a pain having to prime it and clean it out when finished, but that is just more motivation to keep working i guess. You dont have to completely clean it out with water if you’re going to use it again within 16 hrs. You just put the gun in a bucket of water. Very pleased with what I got for 220 dollars. Much better than just renting every time.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. By Handyman By Ta-Jen Hsing I purchased the Wagner unit to spray my deck. I used a solid color Cabot stain. The sprayer was easy to assemble and to prepare for use. I started spraying my deck and it was going great however, the unit lost its prime and I had to wait 30 seconds or so before it regained its prime and reestablished operating pressure. When the prime is lost, the pressure drops and the spray pattern is lost. This problem continued to occur frequently. I tried the troubleshooting tips in the manual to no avial. I also did research on the web and some sites said to dilute the stain. However, this stuff is expensive ($165 per 5 gallons) and the instructions on the stain said Do Not Dilute. So, I did not dilute it.

Loss of the prime is a BIG pain as the disrputed spray pattern means you have an uneven application that you have to wipe off or try to blend in. Also, it is very frustrating to have to keep waiting for the unit to re-establish its prime.

My deck is fairly large and ended up taking roughly 15 gallons of stain. I fought the Wagner unit throuh roughly 2/3 of the first 5 gallon bucket but then gave up. As I was researching what to do to resolve this issue on the web, I noticed that several sites indicated the Grayco units worked better than the Wagner units. I considered the Grayco unit when I was shopping but went for the lower price of the Wagner. In frustration and due to needing to get this job finished, I went to Lowes and purchased a Grayco “Magnum Project Painter Plus” for about the same price as the Wagner unit.

The Grayco unit worked Great!! No issues. I sent the Wagner unit back and got a refund from Amazon. The Grayco unit was also made in the USA. My recommendation if you are using a solid stain is to buy the Grayco unit. The Wagner unit might work fine for less viscous paints however, it is terrible for solid color deck stains.

I had never used any spray gun, unless you count the spray cans, before I purchased my ProCoat. I’ve used it 3 times since I purchased it 2 years ago. So far it sprays anything I feed to it: water, primer, latex paint and wood stain. It sucks paint from 1-gallon or 2-gallon cans or 5-gallon buckets without problem. Clean up is not as difficult as you might think if you don’t mind that it still looks dirty after clean up. It did break after my first usage; a connecting hose inside the sprayer became lose. I open it up and fix it. It has no issue since.

Bob D. It worked well. Trigger got stuck sometimes…. Overall, it did the job at a cheap price. If you’re a DIYer, you need to make sure you have a compressor, compressor lines and fittings and pressure regulator. This doesn’t come with instructions. All it comes with is the gun, hopper, and some fittings for the spray pattern. They have a diagram for you to order parts as well.
